Here's the latest in the never ending series of potential iPod killers:
What makes this one significant is that Samsung hired Paul Mercer, 38, a veteran Apple Macintosh software designer who helped design the original iPod four years ago.

Apple will surely get competition, but remember, Sony sold over 300 million Walkmans in a ten-year period, and there were plenty of copycats there.
Yeah, I tend to think Apple will bungle this one as well. But perhaps they will surprise us.

the iTMS Japan was released in Japan in August of last year, though the iPod had been available for some time before then... likewise for AppleUSA, in that the iPod came out in 2001 and in 2003 the iTMS-USA was launched. For the 3ish years since that spark the iPod sales have been really very good. Now Japan has the iPod+iTMS combination in place and last Q was the first Q that had it.
