Wild Ride!

Man, was that not an insane day?

We did a little buying through out the day -- but not a lot.

Toe in the water for a trade . . .

What did you do ?

Moved 5% from cash to stocks. Should be just in time for the next downdraft.

Posted by: Don | Oct 6, 2008 5:54:12 PM

considering the current lack to 3 mile diameter meteor heading for the earth, and a VIX of 58, it was a good time for some small positions!

Posted by: bucket | Oct 6, 2008 5:54:16 PM

Cut shorts back some. Thought about more gold with the printing presses going to kick up to another level.

Posted by: Jeff | Oct 6, 2008 5:55:47 PM

made love to my cash.

Posted by: CuriousCapitalist | Oct 6, 2008 5:55:53 PM

What did you do ?

watched the line going downdowndown on the finance chart at yahoo all afternoon, wondered how that bailout thing was working and thought about George W. Bush's legacy.

Bought TINY amounts of MCD, ACI, UYG, QID.....

Posted by: Jeff M. | Oct 6, 2008 5:56:42 PM

closed my double-inverse Russell 2k.

Posted by: mike | Oct 6, 2008 6:01:23 PM

sold my last 500 shares of DXD and did some buying in SSO, DIG, QLD and UYG when the market was in the -700 zone, I could sense the fear and loathing and that's always a good time to wade in; my portfolio is +9% this year thanks to The Big Picture (Barry you're my hero). . . and the ProShares short ETFs; I think there will be a tradable rally for a short time now, the margin calls must be horrific.

I thought about how awful it was going to be with B.O. in the White House with his ugly, nasty wife

bot 1k shares of sso @ 36.86; sold at 40.98
bot 10k shares dht @ 4.95
bot 1k shares of gdx @ 26.26

Friday bought $10k SSO at the close, realizing that there could be more downside to 1,060.

Monday bought another $10k at 1,060.

Still have large % of cash on sidelines after selling all positions in April 07.

This is one of the best buying opportunities in the last 30 years, bar none, based on countless technical indicators/analysis.

Hardest thing in the world to do is buy when EVERYONE says the sky is falling. Those that do will usually be rewarded handsomely. And hey, it's the patriotic things to do!!

Traded in and out of sp & vix futures. Flat end of day. Bought a few vix puts at the close.

Posted by: Jay | Oct 6, 2008 6:04:13 PM

Sold FXP,

Bought: CHK (am I the only one?) EP, and FCX.

Missed a good trade in AAPL, thinking about taking a shot at RIMM.

Held: GLD, UUP, JNJ, MCD, MO

Wall Street joined in a worldwide cascade of despair Monday over the financial crisis, driving the Dow Jones industrials to their biggest loss ever during a trading day, closing below 10,000 for the first time since 2004.

the sideline looks good from here. No need to hurry lots of time to pick through the pile of equity debris!!

Posted by: ron | Oct 6, 2008 6:07:41 PM

Called my lender and made an offer to pay 50 cents on the dollar for my investment property mortgages.

Posted by: johnnyvee | Oct 6, 2008 6:07:51 PM

Started buying at 90 minutes before close with half positions of individual stocks: FTO, TSO, EME, and full position in ARAY and managed an 8% gain before the bell. Have no desire to hold these positons for any length of time.

Note to all: There are only 12 shopping days left until the Bank Holiday. (Probably).

made love to my cash - 3 times.

why such an asshole, kevin? or simply a racist pig? you know your kind got its ass kicked back in 1861-1865 and it could happen again.

Bought qqqq (x2 Rydex) at 11 and sold them all at the close.

When the hi/low range within a trading day is almost the avg % gain for the year of the DOW, just trying to buy low and sell high. (which is very these days)

If we have a steep drop in the morning tomorrow, will try it again. I expect a rate cut or something this week from our guys in Washington DC who think they are omnipotent. Statistically, we're due for a 5-7% bounce.

Bought some SLB, not too far from the lows to bolster my existing losing position in that stock...

It was down 30 straight points... Had a feeling they'd defend the SP 1000 level...Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

Did anyone see the Bloomberg headline: "Commodities RIP"?

I'm looking for a 1000 point in a day, bear market rally at some point...

Nibbled on some Apple and Monsanto because of BR's rule to **ALWAYS** buy stocks when they are making 52-week lows ; ) Still 80% cash --- amazing the damage even 20% in stocks can do. Shorts are seriously pressing on companies who carry a lot of debt, and those didn't bounce much.

I bought gold and called the call-girl...she takes IOU's
