Where in the World is Mark Morford?

sfgatecom_125x80.gif

Mark Morford, my favorite online columnist, had gone missing. Its been nearly six weeks since his last column ("Where Is My Gay Apocalypse? - Over 3,500 gay marriages and, what, no hellfire? I was promised hellfire. And riots. What gives?"), and nary a peep from either he or the Gate.

He is now found.

Morford writes "The Morning Fix" -- best described as "a deeply skewed, highly satiric, well-lubricated thrice-weekly (MWF) email newsletter & column, which is absolutely free to subscribers but costs $10,000 if you don't like it. Strangely popular among politicians, sadomasochists, and Mormons."He's become the SFGate's top draw.

The style of The Morning Fix has been described as "irreverent, in-your-face grammar and conservative sensitivities be damned!" It earned him the Best Online Columnist award for 2003 from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.

His sudden disappearence was the source of great speculation; I called the SF Gate a few weeks ago, and they claimed no knowledge of what was happening or when it might be resolved.

That now appears to be true. I actually got a hold of Mark today (more or less by accident) and the situation appears to have been resolved. I'll let him fill you in on all the salacious details. The good news is that the Morning Fix will be returning within a week or so, and there may even be a -- brace yourselves-- Morford column in the dead tree editions. (Note to editor: hire more mail staff).

As someone who subsists on a steady fare of the WSJ, bland economic releases and other effluvia -- and I freely admit to stealing that word for this half of the Big Picture blog from Morford -- his return will be a welcome antidote to my usual diet of dry and humorless prose.

Looking forward to it . . .
