Values? Sargent recognizes (all too clearly) that the "value" debate is a brilliant political ploy: It frames the debate away from a rich/poor/economic discussion, into something very, very different.

Just a side note on the Hollywood left which was mentioned in the cartoon. I think Michael Moore did a pretty good job of damaging the Democrats on his own during this race. To what extent, I do not know, but I know that the average swing voter just doesn't relate him. So when the Democrats embrace Michael Moore, it does not help their cause. Salon.com noted long ago that Michael Moore is bad for the Democrats. Democratic pollster Pat Caddell has been saying the same thing for a while, but nobody seemed to have been listening. Rove and company did not capitalize on the Democrat/Moore association nearly as much as they could have.
